FAQ
High-mount trailers are designed to be pulled by a tractor with a conventional 5th wheel mounted on the chassis, above the drive tires. The fifth wheel height is typically about 45-48” off of the ground. Stinger trailers, in contrast, are pulled by a tractor with a much lower fifth wheel that is behind the drive tires. The fifth wheel height is typically 12” to 18” inches off of the ground depending on the model.
The sliding 5th wheel allows the 5th wheel to move approximately 16 inches to enhance turning clearances under tight conditions. The sliding kingpin option, on the other hand, involves sliding the kingpin itself, which can be set in three positions: closed, middle, or open. The sliding kingpin can also enhance turning clearances under tight conditions.
For the majority of our domestic units require the dimension from the front bumper to the center of the rear drive axle to be 308 inches, though this may vary. Please consult with a Cottrell sales representative to ensure your tractor meets the necessary specifications.

The casing is used for horizontal cylinder repairs. A deck pin must be inserted to prevent deck movement when the cylinder is removed.
The high-mount product line is the only equipment where the Teflon disc is not available. Stinger equipment can accommodate a Teflon disc if ordered with a long kingpin during the initial build. Installing a Teflon disc “after the fact” (when not originally specified as part of the original Cottrell build) must not be done. The kingpin length will be too short, resulting in potential coupling/ decoupling issues.
